Europe's Oldest & Most Prestigious Judo and Martial Arts Club

The Budokwai began as a Judo club and still offers Judo classes throughout the week. We also offer regular martial arts classes in Shotokan Karate, Brazilian Jui-Jitsu and Aikido as well as Hontai Yoshin Ryu Ju-Jitsu and Pilates. Our martial arts instructors are all highly qualified, experienced and able to offer a range of coaching and instruction for the complete novice through to Olympic standard. Beginners are carefully taught techniques most suited to their ability and proceed up the grades towards the much-coveted Dan grade and Black Belt. The junior martial arts instructors are of the same high standard and the children's Judo classes & Karate classes attract a great number of youngsters every week.

"For babies and children, creativity is at an all life high, all forms of expression and play are creating connections and forming their understanding of the world they are living in.  The more a child can be supported and given the opportunity to cultivate their artistic nature, the more they can develop their imagination and ability to think, envision and invent."

The Budokwai offers Art, Messy Play and JudoGym for babies and toddlers.  For more information on Yoga with Felix or his art pieces see

Sensei David Mesa Rey, former Cuban National Judo Champion will runs the 10 week introductory ABC in Judo course at The Budokwai, the current course began on September 20th 2016.

The Budokwai is celebrated as Europe's oldest Martial Arts club. We believe that our fun-filled movement class JudoGym offers children from as young as 6 months the joy of physical exploration in a fully padded dojo (Martial Arts room.)

We are also passionate about nurturing the creative, cerebral side of our Martial Artists-in-the-making to flourish through our Budokwai Art classes.

It's a fantastic opportunity to create mixed media masterpieces against a backdrop of music and songs!
